Raishma's reading of the dress
'Leading couture bridal designer was in Windsor to witness the arrival of Meghan Markle, the new Duchess of Sussex. Here she gives her expert opinion on the dress that the whole world has been waiting to see:
"A timeless, modest and elegant dress but will her evening reception gown have more glitz?"
Raishma, who has designed gowns for the young Royals and who trained under Elizabeth Emanuel, Princess Diana’s bridal gown designer, continued to say:
“Meghan clearly went for the more sedate side of Hollywood glamour in her choice of dress- more Grace Kelly than anything ostentatious. The veil is the real the talking point, the length alone is staggering with an embroidered scalloped border around the edges. She has such a petite frame that quite rightly, she opted for a fuss-free silhouette: a 1950s boat neck cut, with a very elegant bias cut.
“The colour is a brilliant white which really created an ethereal entrance. There is an air of modesty to the gown with its very simple shape and the long sleeves – ideal for a high profile, chapel wedding. I was personally hoping for a showstopper and lot of embroidery and embellishment but this is a beautiful, if very safe gown.
“The choice of Givenchy is impressive and classic. While it may be a famously French couture house, Meghan has opted for the new in-house British designer, Clare Waight Keller, who was previously Creative Director at French fashion house Chloé. The dress is an example of couture design at its most classic and timeless."
